Test Preparation Guide

Preparing for your test
Please consult the chart to determine the preparation required for your test. If you have any question about these instructions be sure to consult with your doctor prior to your scheduled test date.

Radiology Procedure Required Preparation, if any
Any MRI Patients must be free of Pacemaker and must alert the medical staff to any metallic implants.
MRI of the brain No preparation required
MRI of the spine No preparation required
MRI of any Extremity No preparation required

MRI of the Abdomen with or without contrast
No food or drink for 4 hours prior to exam
MRI of the Pelvis No preparation required
MRCP No food or drink for 4 hours prior to exam

Any Cat Scan with contrast injection
No food or drink for 4 hours prior to exam


Upper GastroIntestinal (UGI) series

Is VIRTUAL COLONOGRAPHY COVERED BY THIS? IF SO< NEED TO ADD CLEANSING PREP.

No food or drink for 6 hours prior to exam
UGI with SBS No food or drink for 6 hours prior to exam
IVP No food or drink for 6 hours prior to exam

Low residue diet for 48 hours. Obtain a Fleet Prep Kit #1 from any pharmacy and follow directions.
Ultrasound of the Pelvis or Bladder Drink four 8-ounce glasses of water or juice an hour before the appointment time. Patient should be done drinking an hour before the exam to allow bladder time to fill.

Ultrasound of the abdomen
No food or drink for 6 hours prior to exam
Mammogram Wear comfortable, two-piece clothing. Do not wear jewelry, powder, deodorant or lotion on the upper body. Patient should bring in previous mammograms for comparison.
